Our work lies in creating “places” through the design of architecture and space. In this process, we place great importance on thinking, reflecting, and exploring forms together with the people involved — the process itself lies at the heart of what we do.
The products presented under our new label, “By Pass,” have emerged naturally through the course of our design projects. Reading the flow, adjusting relationships, and guiding the process — “By Pass” represents a fluid motion that interweaves people and the living landscape, drawing out the form most suited to each place.
The lighting and chair we present here were both born from needs that arose during the making of specific places. The “Yame Lantern Light” draws inspiration from the 200-year history and craftsmanship of Yame lanterns rooted in Fukuoka. The “Tensui Chair,” meanwhile, takes inspiration from the traditional straw sandal weaving practiced by residents of a welfare organization that has long responded to local needs since Japan’s postwar reconstruction period.
