My name is Philip Lumbang, I am a painter from Los Angeles California. I used acrylic, oil pastel, collage and gold leaf to create my newest art show.
Since Bravery is the theme of the art festival and I am brave I explore the internal struggle of my personal life through paint. My new series is a visual diary of my mental state dealing with a divorce and betrayal of the person I thought to love the most. My bear character is always portrayed as bright, cute and optimistic. So I set out to explore my feelings of hopelessness, and rumination through my character's new look. Engulfed in a flame of self doubt and loathing, covered in soot, dawning new brutal markings and skeleton mask. I capture the feelings plaguing my mind while I go through a soul crushing heartbreak in real time. While time and self reflection help to heal, we instead find my character harnessing the very thing that hurts him the most. With that in mind, his outlook on life becomes progressively less grim.
Please join me as I present my very first solo exhibition at sloth gallery Shibuya,Tokyo 31st of October 2025.
