We present SORI and kasane, products created using hiwadabuki, a traditional Japanese roofing technique.
<SORI>
A lighting product born from the collaboration of an architect and a hiwadabuki master. Making use of the technique’s ability to form beautiful curves from delicate materials, it evokes the roofs of Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. By bringing this prestigious craft into daily life, it offers a way to experience the beauty of Japanese tradition up close.
<kasane>
A wall decoration inspired by hiwadabuki. It repurposes unused materials from roof works on National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, reconstructing them as a sustainable yet luxurious interior finish.
Hiwadabuki :
An ancient Japanese roofing method using shaped cypress bark. It is widely used on the roofs of shrines and temples designated as National Treasures or Important Cultural Properties.
