This lighting fixture is inspired by the Trachycarpus (shuro palm), reinterpreting the bark’s role in protecting the trunk to create a sculptural language that reveals its hidden strength. The bark, treated with persimmon tannin and shaped into a hollow cone, is topped with a metal cap holding a light source, forming a portable table lamp. While the shade appears fragile, it reflects only one aspect of the material, and the cap’s support at the apex symbolizes the fiber strength and resilience within. When lit, light falls into the center, making it the work’s core. The illuminated bark shifts in texture and expression as if embracing the light, revealing subtle qualities concealed in the material.
