TITLE | Square Timber Pin-Kado
This work is an attempt to create a new expression for wooden pillars by cutting square timber at angles ranging from 45 to 90 degrees and rotating it using metal fittings.
By adjusting thickness and width and designing the rotating surfaces to be square, the wood corners align beautifully regardless of the bending angle.
This type of joint is called a "pin-kado," but conventional pin-kado refers to the sharp corners at the four edges of a wooden pillar, where components meet on the same plane.
In this work, "Square Timber Pin-Kado," a mechanism was devised to allow three-dimensional unfolding while changing angles around the timber's central axis. This enables the timber to possess movement within space while maintaining an elegant and beautiful presence. It presents a new expression for square timber where elegance and dynamism coexist.
